*PoetryBattles is a unique chatroom based group. We do not solely offer your standard contests, as do other groups (though we will run competitions with prizes on occasion). We put poets and their poetry to the test, requiring them to produce on-the-spot poetry in a limited time frame on a given topic.

We will also have a workshop designated for PB produced poems only to polish them into magnificent pieces worthy of being showcased.

“A subject for a great poet would be God's boredom after the seventh day of creation.” by Friedrich Nietzsche. **

Friedrich Nietzsche did a nice job presenting us poets with this quote. For the first part of the contest, you will need to write a poem based around this quote of any length and format.

But, that's just the start of things!

Once you've finished that poem, you have to write a contrasting poem based over the following topic:

"...God's boredom after the seventh day of creation...and why he will eventually choose to destroy it..." **

Just think of the poems as if they were rivals in battle. Get it? Battle? Ok, now send them to us!

Now I know these aren't the most spectacular prizes, but hey, what do you have to lose?

First Place: 3 month Sub, Issue of Mimesis 2, Journal/News Feature, Rank Advancement.

Second Place: 1 month Sub, Journal/News Feature, Rank Advancement.

Third Place: 1 month Sub, Journal/News Feature.

Include both poems in a single deviation and note us with your submission with "Contest" as the subject.

There are no regulations regarding format or length, except that it must be poetry, so be creative (yes this includes haiku, so send in something short if you think you're clever enough for it )!

There is no submission limit, so send in whatever you can write!

Deadline for submissions will be 12:00am CST on August 23rd. us will open for full operation when the winners are announced!

Everyone help *PoetryBattles get off to a great start and spread the word of our contest and project! A simple journal will do, or you can become hardcore spammer fans and note all your friends (but really the latter was a joke, so don't get !Banned).

We are currently seeking individuals for staff. We need:

People who have a passion for poetry and a keen eye when it comes to spotting well written poems.

People who can make note of the balance between poetic techniques within a poem to determine its overall quality in comparison to another poem.

People who can provide the necessary commentary on a poem, especially for the workshop.

People who can be active in the chat room for battle hungry poets.

And people who love to have a good time!

These positions are not time consuming, but do require a free day that is continuous, which will be used to host the battles. A set date has not been placed for when the battles will occur. That will be worked out when staff is in place.

We are also in need of an Avatar and/or an ID. Any takers, please send a note. We give full credit where it is due.
